So, writing this up took me a bit longer than I had originally planned. But, it’s better late than never. It was a Monday like any other, I was tired, easily distracted, and had no desire to be at work. After a measly 10 hour day, I left work and returned to my home looking forward to a calm night of Netflix and leftovers. All that changed when I walked into the door, and saw Tasha sulking in the doorway. She had a look on her face (and in her eyes), that spoke very plainly: “I did something you aren’t going to like, and now I have to tell you about it”.
So, I did what I have to in this sort of situation, and asked her what was wrong. The look in her eyes intensified as she informed me that she was pretty sure that she was pregnant. I realized later, that this was when I started smiling that day. She went on to inform me of the details, she had been nauseous and tired, and (for whatever reason) no longer felt that the pregnancy test she had received from the hospital only a week ago was still valid. So, while she was at work she took a test, and almost immediately the tell-tale blue line popped up.
Now, by way of some back story, this wasn’t the first pregnancy test that Tasha has taken. She’s a bit of an old pro at the process and the timing of a negative response. Thus, when the positive indicator popped up (earlier than the control line) she was more than a little shocked. So, she took another. Once again she got the same response.
Next Tasha asked me what my feelings were. I, being me, told her the truth, because there can be only one (I was still smiling btw). I was, and still am, happy, terrified, worried and excited. Half my brain is jumping up and down with joy, and the other half keeps trying to reason with itself that millions of other men have been a father for the first time in their lives, and that by extension I must have nothing to worry about.
I’ll leave you with this thought: In nine months (thereabouts) we get to find out whose “Mother’s Curse” has the most power. As I understand it, Tasha wasn’t much of an angel when she was younger… I look forward to finding the answer.
